The announcement of A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, a new game set in the same universe as the movies, is promising to stir up a new style of survival horror gameplay. The 2018 hit movie, directed by John Krasinski and starred by him and Emily Blunt, take place in a post-apocalyptic Earth, which has been overrun by a dangerous alien species. These deadly extraterrestrials are blind, however, and hunt with their sense of hearing. While the reveal of A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead happened just recently, players may not have to wait too long to get into the midst of the survival horror game. The title developed by Stormind Games and published by Saber Interactive is set to be released at some point in 2024. The information was revealed alongside the game’s first trailer, which can be seen on the official Saber Interactive channel on YouTube. The video showcases the playable survivor scouring through gear in an abandoned factory while an alien predator stalks the area.

You Will Play As A Survivor In The Game

The game adaptation of the movie franchise will lean into its horror elements by allowing players to experience the post-apocalyptic world from a first-person perspective. The survival horror game will put players in control of a young survivor who has to make their way through a completely destroyed landscape, which is a direct result of the alien invasion that reshaped the planet. It is uncertain exactly where A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead will be set, but many of the biomes seen in the movies, from the urban scenarios to the dense forests will compose the game’s playable environment.

The player’s goal will be to survive these various scenarios as the alien creatures stalk them. While doing so, they will need to be as silent as possible to not draw the unwarranted and deadly attention of the alien monsters from A Quiet Place. From what can be seen in the reveal trailer, however, is that there will be several elements to challenge players. In the video, a player quietly loots an office while an alien wreaks havoc the the area around. When they leave the office, they accidentally step on a piece of broken glass, attracting the creature.

Every minor action seems to produce some amount of sound, and players may have to be careful with what they choose to do. In addition to that, players will have some tools at their disposal, as indicated by the official website for A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead. Both on the website and in the trailer, the player can be seen using some sort of improvised meter with two separate tracking bars. However, it is uncertain exactly what these tools are and how they will work.

While there is no mention of such a mechanic in the official press release, the game could possibly even use microphone-tracking to enhance the stealth-based survival horror experience. Popular games in the genre, like Phasomophobia, use this as a means to deepen the immersion and have players actively force their own silence to increase their odds of survival. Seeing that this is the central sensory element of the A Quiet Place franchise, such a mechanic would fit in perfectly with The Road Ahead – this, however, is merely speculative.

For now, very few gameplay elements have been described to an extent, and curious players will have to wait a while longer before they get to know the true nature of this upcoming game. However, with the title’s release set for 2024 and half of the year already gone, the wait may not be too long.
