Commerce Snaps Slump in Win Over Minnechaug Team, 64-52 Dixon, Barrows, Graham Feature For Red Raiders By GARRY BROWN by Pod Tobias. Take Lead WILBRAHAM Commerce checked a two-game losing streak and handed Minnechaug Regional its second loss of the week by posting a 64-52 victory here Thursday afternoon on the Minnechaug court. The Red Raiders turned aside Minnechaug comeback bid in the third period, then went on to open a 16-point lead before the home club cut the deficit to 12 at the finish. Charlie Does Big Job Charlie Graham, the little professor Commerce's lineup. turned in second straight defensive gem.

The 5-9 junior guard danced all day with Minnechaug high scorer Dale Fryer and limited him to 12 points on six hoops, three in each half. He shut out the Falcon ace in the last quarter. Last Friday, Graham did an effective job of cutting down the scoring output of Tech's prolific Dwight Durante. Lefty Leroy Dixon was a standout, playing an excellent all-around game and flipping 19 points. Elton Barrows also did well, scoring 16.

They had to be good. because 6-5 Rick Gross of Minnechaug gave Commerce's top scorer, center Freddy Hill, his worst day of season. Hill was able to pop only one basket and four frec throws. Gross topped the losers with 17 pints. Commerce led by 14-10 after one quarter, then went 10 points ahead midway through the second quarter.

Minnechaug came on to cut the margin to 30-24 at halftime. The Falcons came out fighting in the third period, and finally moved ahead, 36-35, on a basket Commerce, though, outscored the Falcons, 7-2, in the next couple of minutes to regain a lead it never lost. The Raiders were up by 48-10 at the third station break. Quick baskets by Barrows one on a break and one from deep in the corner jumped Commerce 11 ahead early in the final stanza, and the Raiders were out of reach, Commerce now stands 7-2 heading into tonight's Interschool League game against Trade at the Field House. Minnechaug, unbeaten when the week began, has a 5-2 record.

The Falcons are idle in the Valley Wheel tonight. SCHOOL SCRAPS The footing was slick on Minnechaug's tile court in the first half For a while, the players looked like they were on off with skates The floor was dusted damp mops halftime, and when it dried, was less slippory. Barrows got one of his haskets on a full-court pass from "Leroy threw him Dixond curve on that one," said Commerce assistant coach Dave Cook, referring to the fact that Dixon will be the No. 1 pitcher on Cook's baseball team in spring.
